Vitra Eames ESU Storage Shelf & Bookcase - Designed by Charles and Ray Eames, 1949
In 1949, Charles & Ray Eames developed the ESU Storage system as system of free-standing multifunctional shelves which, similar to the Eames House that dates from the same time, were constructed strictly in keeping with the principles of industrial mass production.
Dutch designer Hella Jongerius was brought into the design process in order to define a stunning à la mode colour scheme which also allowed for the ESU units to maintain their 1940's/1950's feel.
The 4 shelves of the ESU bookcase unit are perfectly adept at accommodating standard ring binder folders. The unit also features multiple sliding doors and drawers.
