Vitra Beta

Beta is a versatile modular staging system developed by Vitra in collaboration with renowned industrial designer Konstantin Grcic. Conceived as a flexible architectural toolkit rather than a fixed object, Beta consists of modular elements crafted from oriented strand board (OSB), a material chosen for its structural integrity, visual honesty, and understated industrial character.

At its core, Beta is defined by its adaptability. Individual modules can be seamlessly linked to form an extensive range of configurations, from simple platforms to tiered bleachers, stages, display environments, or spatial interventions. This modular logic enables users to scale, reshape, and reconfigure installations indefinitely, responding fluidly to changing functional and spatial requirements.

The aesthetic language of Beta reflects Grcic’s signature approach: reductive, functional, and materially expressive. The raw OSB surface communicates authenticity while maintaining a neutral, architectural presence that integrates naturally into diverse contexts—from galleries and cultural venues to workplaces, retail environments, and public spaces.
