Charles & Ray Eames Enthusiasts. A Step Too Far?

Most people who are avid fans of Charles & Ray Eames’ will show their support by purchasing there beautifully crafted works, but not all. Some fans have gone so far as to getting their works tattooed on their bodies. Dedicated fan or too far? I’ll let you decide that one…

In Daniel Ostroff’s book, An Eames Anthology, Charles Eames discusses his take on tattoos. Is it so odd to believe that a shirt and bow tie wearing designer to be discussing tattoos? I personally believe not. Charles quoted Mies van der Rohe’s saying, “I don’t want to be interesting. I just want to be good”, and he said that he thinks that every craftsman should have it tattooed across their chest. Lest we forget, huh…

Below are some of the various tattoos which devoted fans have added to their body canvases. Some of these tattoos have ended up on “Awful Tattoo” blogs. This is simply because the individual who wrote it doesn’t understand nor follow design.

Tattoo trends are constantly changing. From tribal to old school, we all have our own views. One thing that we cannot argue is the fact that Charles & Ray Eames’ designs are timeless.
